May Accomplishments and Activities

Mary Dockery, Instructor of English, published her poem "The Idea of Brad" in Redactions: Poetry and Poetics. She also had a poem, "June's Child," republished in the first Thrush Poetry Journal anthology.
Youth camps facilitated by the Prairie Lands Writing Project got off to an exciting start on May 27th, when 27 middle school students and 89 elementary school students from St. Joseph arrived at MWSU for the first day of four-week summer camps focused on writing.  Camp organizers and teachers from the St. Joseph School District include PLWP Co-Director Christie Leigan and Advisory Team member Mya Treat as well PLWP Teacher Consultants Ann Dotson, Misty Burright, Robin Pettegrew, Raelynn Stroud, Josie Clark, and Elisabeth Alkier.
On May 26th, teachers and administrators from Pickett Elementary School in St. Joseph attended a lunch and debriefing session at MWSU to conclude their work with PLWP on the SEED 2 Professional Development in a High-Need School grant.  PLWP Teacher Consultants Terri McAvoy (SJSD, retired), Christie Leigan (Hall Elementary, SJSD), and Tom Pankiewicz (MWSU), who worked at Pickett throughout the 2013-2014  school year, facilitated discussions and work sessions designed to help teachers and students continue to build on their growth and successes in years to come.

The MWSU Foundation Board has approved $2,000 in funding toward the Canvas Magazine for fiscal year 2014-2015.
