"That Poetry Reading Series" Kicks Off

We welcome writers of all backgrounds to join us at Foster's Martini Bar for an open mic reading on November 7. Come and share your most recent or favorite creative piece with a supportive audience, have a drink, and meet others in the writing community. Arrive early to sign up. There will be a five to seven minute time limit for each person, so plan your reading accordingly.

Faculty and Student Activities in September


Presentations/Workshops
Bob Bergland and AIM graduate student Heather Heater presented "Distribution Features of Daily Newspaper Websites: A 2012 Content Analysis" at the Convergence and Society Conference in Columbia, SC Sept. 27. Co authors included convergent media majors Andrew Inman and David Hon.
 
Mike Cadden presented the paper “But You Are Still a Monkey: American Born Chinese and Racial Representation” at the Ethics and Children’s Literature Symposium held at the Prindle Institute for Ethics, DePauw University.

Michael Charlton presented the paper “Video Game Culture and Teaching Technical Writing” and moderated a panel at the 2012 conference for the Council of Programs in Technical and Scientific Communication at Michigan Tech.

Conference/Seminars/Committees
Kaye Adkins participated in the annual conference of the Council for Programs in Technical and Scientific Communication. Dr. Adkins is the treasurer for the international organization.

Jeanie Crain has completed six Action Project Reviews for The Higher Learning Commission.

Grants Awarded
MAA (Written Communications) Graduate student Angela Bush wrote a successful grant proposal to the First Hands Foundation as part of EPR 620. The award, worth several thousand dollars, will be used to buy adaptive technology for a family member.
