Caroline Whiteman
organized a seminar (a group of three panels under a common theme) and gave a
paper, "Otakus à la française: Le nouveau japonisme in Contemporary
France," at the American Comparative Literature Conference (ACLA) in
Washington DC the week before spring break. Juliette Papadopoulos, our French
Fulbright from last year, attended as well and presented her paper
"Connected Amazonia: The Emergence of Digital Patrimonial Spaces in French
Guyana."
The following week, Whiteman
gave the paper "Critical Disasters: Xabi Molia's Literary Catastrophes as
Social Commentary and Cultural Reflection" at the 20th and 21st
Century French and Francophone Studies Colloquium in Oklahoma City.
Marianne Kunkel and Mike
Cadden presented at the Association of Writing Professionals (AWP) in late
March. Kunkel’s session was “The PushMePullMe of Advising Lit Journals: Publishing
While Getting Published.” Cadden’s session was “A Tribute to Ursula K. Le Guin.”
Kaye Adkins, Brooksie
Kluge, and soon-to-be colleague Jennifer Jackson attended College English
Association (CEA) meeting in New Orleans. Adkins’ presentation was “Envisioning
Online Classes: What Instructional Design Professionals Can Teach Us.” Ms.
Jackson’s presentation was “Individual: FYW DIY: Multimodal Zines for a New
Perspective.”

Kay Siebler has a chapter included
in the book Strategies for Resisting Sexism in the Academy, edited
by Gail Crimmins and published by Palgrave Macmillan Press. Siebler's chapter,
"Civic Engagement as Empowerment" focuses on her work getting MWSU
students to connect rhetorical analysis, writing, and public/political action
